Multi-Tiered System of Supports - MTSS Academics

  • A multi-tiered system of supports (MTSS) is a proactive and preventative framework that integrates data and instruction to maximize student achievement and support students' social, emotional, and behavior needs from a strengths-based perspective. MTSS offers a framework for educators to engage in data-based decision making related to program improvement, high-quality instruction and intervention, social and emotional learning, and positive behavioral supports necessary to ensure positive outcomes for districts, schools, teachers, and ALL students.     Literacy Support

    Professional development and technical assistance is provided to educators in the Science of Reading and Writing. Outcomes include deepening professional knowledge of how literacy skills are attained, improved use of assessment data, and refining of practices to support students who struggle. Topics include:

    • foundational skill development in reading and writing, 

    • assessment administration and interpretation, 

    • planning and delivery of interventions, 

    • structured literacy and multisensory instruction, 

    • dyslexia, dysgraphia, and literacy supports for students with autism and complex needs.


    Math Support

    Professional development and technical assistance is provided to educators in supporting all students access mathematics.  Outcomes include deepening professional knowledge of how mathematical skills are attained, improved use of assessment data, and refining of practices to support students who struggle.  Topics include: 

    • foundational skill development in numeracy,

    • Concrete-Representational Abstract in five areas: early numeracy, addition and subtraction, multiplication and division, fractions, and integers, expression and equations,

    • grade band trainings specific to Kindergarten, Grades 1-2, 3-5, and 6-8,

    • assessment administration and interpretation in mathematics,

    • planning and delivery of interventions in mathematics,

    • Dyscalculia and math supports for students with autism and complex needs.


    How we provide training and consultation:

    Training and technical assistance is provided in a variety of formats:

    • Professional development at the AIU

    • Customized sessions on-site at your school or district

    • Team, classroom, and student consults

    There is no cost for training and support.
